“The X Factor” U.S. better invest in plenty of tissue paper because of all the crying that happens during the show.
As previously reported, the episode that Fox aired in the U.S. on November 22, 2011, turned into a sobfest, as the female judges (Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger) and several of the finalists broke down and cried. There was also plenty of angry bickering amongst the judges, particularly between L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell.
Cowell is mentoring the Girls category (female solo singers under age 30). The remaining finalists in this category are Melanie Amaro, Rachel Crow and Drew.
Reid is mentoring the Boys category (male solo singers under age 30). The remaining finalists in this category are Astro, Marcus Canty and Chris Rene.
Scherzinger is mentoring the Over 30s category (solo singers ages 30 and older). The remaining finalists in this category are LeRoy Bell and Josh Krajcik.
Abdul is mentoring the Groups category. The remaining finalist in this category is Lakoda Rayne.
The judges have said what they think. Here is what “X Factor” viewers think, based on comments made on the Internet.
Who’s “In” and Who’s “Out” With Fan Support
Josh Krajcik, 30, continues to win over new fans. Although many viewers thought that most of the finalists performed well in this episode, Krajcik stood head and shoulders above the rest because numerous people think that he comes across as the most sincere and has the most versatile talent: He can sing a variety of genres and tempos, he plays instruments, and he writes his own songs. (Although he has not performed his original songs on “The X Factor” U.S. yet, Krajcik released his music independently before he became an “X Factor” contestant.)
Melanie Amaro, 19, is also still a fan favorite and is widely considered a frontrunner in this competition, but some people have mentioned that Amaro appears to be limited in what kind of music she can sing, and she has yet to step out of her comfort zone. Week after week, Amaro does an emotional R&B ballad or an emotional R&B ballad version of a non-R&B song. But because Amaro is considered the most pitch-perfect vocalist in the competition, fans are willing to give her a pass.
On the other end of the spectrum, 15-year-old rapper Astro is still experiencing a lot of criticism for the way he behaved on the November 17 episode, when he had a negative outburst because he ended up in the bottom two of getting votes from the public. Many viewers on the Internet believe that his apologies are insincere. It does not help that Astro has given interviews implying that “The X Factor” U.S. deliberately mishandled the votes as some sort of revenge for a dispute he had with the show over wearing un-licensed headphones on the show. Astro has also told the media that he would not change how he acted in that episode, which is basically saying that he’s not very sorry about his behavior at all.
Some viewers have also expressed disgust over the show’s judges being willing to make excuses for Astro and his rude antics. Cowell even said on the November 22 episode that he likes it when contestants misbehave once in a while. However, Reid in particular has lost a lot of viewer respect not only because of the way he defends Astro but also because Reid continues to hammer at 14-year-old finalist Drew for the same things that Astro does but Reid does not criticize Astro for, such as not showing enough versatility or choosing a song that is considered too “mature” for a teenager.
Double Elimination Predictions From Viewers
With two finalist acts scheduled to be eliminated in the November 23 episode, female quartet Lakoda Rayne is widely predicted to be one of the acts to get cut from the competition in this episode. Lakoda Rayne was formed out of contestants who originally auditioned for the show as solo singers. They were rejected as solo singers but were allowed to continue in the competition on the condition that they join a group manufactured by “X Factor” producers.
Many viewers on the Internet think that Lakoda Rayne had the worst performance on the November 22 episode. And people just don’t seem to be convinced that Lakoda Rayne is a cohesive group that sincerely loves country pop, which is the genre that “The X Factor” producers decided that Lakoda Rayne would perform as a group.
Several people also think that Astro could be eliminated on November 23, but he has his share of fans who are rallying to support him because they think has a real chance of winning. On the other hand, 20-year-old Marcus Canty and 60-year-old LeRoy Bell are also at risk because they are not really mentioned very often as viewers’ top choices to win. Bell and Canty do not have not nearly as much fan support as Amaro and Krajcik have. Bell has gotten mixed reviews from the judges, so even if he lasts past the November 23 episode, it is unlikely that he will end up in the Top 5.
Chris Rene, 28, was once considered the frontrunner when the season began, but his popularity has since been eclipsed by support for fan favorites Amaro and Krajcik. Still, it’s doubtful that Rene will be eliminated by the judges at this point in the show. And if 13-year-old Rachel Crow or Drew end up in the bottom of getting votes and have to do a sing-off for the judges, it would also be shocking if the judges voted to eliminate either of them at this stage of the competition.
“The X Factor” U.S. got clobbered in the ratings by ABC and CBS programs on November 22. According to Nielsen Media Research, “The X Factor” U.S. had 9.4 million U.S. viewers, and placed fourth overall in total viewers for the night’s prime-time U.S. ratings. The season finale of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” came in first place (with 19.6 million U.S. viewers), followed by CBS’s “NCIS” (18.5 million U.S. viewers) and CBS’s “NCIS: Los Angeles” (14.1 million U.S. viewers).
Ratings for “The X Factor” U.S. have been on a steady decline. When the series first started, it averaged about 11.5 million to 12.5 million viewers per episode. Now, the show is struggling to get 10 million viewers per episode. Many people on the Internet who said they have said they stopped watching “The X Factor” U.S. have mentioned they lost interest in the show because they have not been very impressed with the talent that the show has to offer, and they are turned off by the judges’ bickering.
Here is a sampling of comments made on the Internet:
From “The X Factor” U.S. official Facebook page:
“Saved the best for last!!! Go Josh… He has The X-factor”
“I like every one on the show other than LA and his team sorry marcus your the only one with any talent but not enough to be on this show.”
“Simon took care of LA Reid last night and make him look stupid…”Utter rubbish”…LA Reid failed to inform his prince Astro that this a competition and it’s not all about him…I say vote him out..and let him do Hip Hop in the Hood where he belong.”
“I am still voting for Astro. Great performance! Show me what u got! Loved It!”
“I thought Drew actually went out of her comfort zone a bit last night and I am really tired of LA constantly attacking her. She has her own style just like Astro rapping, its the same, its her style and I thought last nights song was awesome. I was surprised because I thought he was going to say something nice….I think he needs to update himself a bit on the music that is out there as well, this is the second time where he has either not heard of the song or thought it was sung by an older person??? Whatever!”
“Is it me or did Lakota Reign seem completely out of place on the show tonight? Everyone else sang powerful, heartfelt songs and they were skipping around the stage siniging teeny bopper pop? I thought they were country. No votes for them tonight, which is a shame because they could be great if they picked songs more suited to their style and genre. Josh gets my vote.”
“I do also want to say that L.A. Reid’s attitude is ANNOYING ME to the point that I cannot bring myself to vote for ANY of his boys. I love Marcus and Chris, and Astro is VERY talented, but I am getting sick of L.A.’s banter with Simon. I also find it highly hypocritical that he bashes Drew each week for doing “the same thing” when Astro does “the same thing” every week, too. I mean, please. This shoud be about the kids–they are both UBER TALENTED and legit artists. L.A. needs to shut it.”
“Chris Rene’s preformance was AMAZING!!! Lakoda Rayne needs to GO HOME ALREADY!!! Was it me or did anyone else hear the audience boo Astro before the commercial break??”
“Lakota Rayne chose the wrong song tonight…seriously how the hell is the song You Belong With Me a song about giving thanks?…Its a song that says your in love with your best friend not a song that says thank you.”
“I think all the judges should go home bc they are all going for their performers! But I admit he told the truth about drew! Every song she sings sounds so depressing! Let her have fun like Rachel.”
“Astro still had a bad attitude tonight , even in his lyrc’s ! He needs to be booted and he brought it on his self ! To many children/teens were looking up to him and he slammed all of us with the sorry attitude ! It just goes to show us , these children are just to young for this kind of pressure !”
“Josh is the best! And Astro is annoying with a cocky attitude!”
“Lakoda Rayne should go home but they may skate by for 2 reasons… 1. They sang a Taylor Swift song. 2. They had backup singers. People that say they sounded great need to really listen. The only harmony (which made them sound fuller) was from the backup singers. They are 4 singers that have not grown as a group. One girl over powers the rest. A group should sound like one voice. These girls being thrown into a group together does not work. Ayyyy lil homie watchu trippin on?” Um, Chris Rene… I don’t see it. It’s great that he went to rehab after wrapping his vehicle around a tree(that could have been another vehicle). But his talent doesn’t compare to Josh, Melanie or anyone else(except LR).”
“I loved the show tonight. It’s becoming clear–and it’s quite sad, really–just how many of these people are ultra talented and could “make it” in the biz if given the opportunity/backing. I think the only talent tonight that just doesn’t cut it is the girls group. They’re good, but not nearly good enough.”
“Voted for melanie, Chris and josh…I think the two that should go home …should be astro, and the nicota girls…. LA need to be a lil more kind..I think simon put him in his place…so sad tonmorrow two will be gone.”
“Astro is by far the worst performer i am surprised he made it past auditions.”
“I would really like to THANK Simon Cowell!..Thank you for The X Factor!..it’s The Greatest Show on Television..it’s about TIME..I was really becoming BORED with TV… much Much!.. BETTER than American Idol!..can’t wait until next season!”
“One thing that really annoys me about LA Reid is that how he mentions Drew always sounds the same (okay sure she does!) however, Astro always sounds the same too and he always is giving him great compliments!”
“Like it or not bratty Astro is going home, who else besides him is going? I like Drew but she might be in trouble…also Chris might be too.”
“OMG, people are trying to compare Astro’s arrogant, bratty, disrespectful attitude to Drew’s defending her song choice, WOW! The girl only said she loves the song…the brat diss the judges, the show, the entire audience, himself and his family, yeah right Drew’s behavior same as Astro’s? REALLY?!”
“Wow! All the fb pages are trending “Astro”. Please leave d kid alone. You have no idea what his journey is about. If his talent far outweighs his “attitude” he may win. He never had a “Father” figure teach him some things. If you don’t like him, Vote someone else.”
“Astro’s apology was so insincere it was ridiculous. Hi rap was all about himself–he is so selfish. “Bratstro” go home!!!!!”
“Alright, astro, u stepped like a man and made things right. Let’s see this new guy going forward! I gotta say though! I LOVE Josh! He amazes me every week! And Rachel, drew, way to go girls.”
“LA REID. You are an egotistical idiot. You have happened upon great artists’, as a beachcomber would with a metal detector. Get off Drews’ back, she is awesome, (reminds me of ‘DIDO’). Simon, I vote off LA and Nicole. You and Paula are awesome, as always!!!”
“LA and Astro are the same!!! Disrepectful !! Both should go home!”
“Josh might win and i hope he does, but melaine will be his toughest competition.”
“I LOVE ASTRO and I think he is truly the X factor No one else is writing their own every night. If that is not the X Factor what is. If it was just a sing show then this is just like American Idol. And Marcus Canty Love you also this MAN IS THE NEW R&B!!!!!!!!!!!! People say astro sounds the same every week WHAT ABOUT DREW SHE SOUNDS LIKE SHE SINGS THE SAME SONG EVERY WEEK. HOPE SHE GOES HOME!!!!!!!!”
“Hope Astro goes home because of his disrespectful attitude and phony apology last night. Way to go Simon–you really told LA off.”
“Chris rene, my favorite, he has a soft sexy voice.”
“Really liked josh last night. melonie is good but she is not really my style of music. Thought astro did pretty good to. I really dont care about his attitude. I vote on talent and what I like, not attitude. If I hated every singer/musician with a bad attitude then my itunes library would be pretty slim. :) Josh is my favorite by far though.”
“I think Melanie has a great voice, but I don’t think she is comfortable enough. She should be herself, no matter what she is singing. I am sure she will probably end up in the top 2 anyway, just because everyone thinks she has a great voice. Josh is awesome and should win. My favorite voice is Drew, but I don’t think she will win because she isn’t willing to change her style enough.”
“Wow Melanie Amaro just came out of the Caribbean closet, is that what just happened?”
“Win or Lose Josh will get signed!!! He is musically GIFTED.”
“#OhSnap that felt like a concert by Lakoda Rayne! Gotta support GIRL POWER! I’m thankful Paula is their mentor!”
“#ohsnap @iammarcuscanty made me cry AGAIN .that was amazing ,beautiful people do beautiful things .love him !”
“Seriously LA, you sure you’re a record exec? Did you just say that the song ‘Skyscraper’ is a 40 year-old song? Wtf #TheXFactor”
“Seriously @LA_Reid, your comments this season on #XFactor show how out of touch you are. Did you know Demi Lovato is 19?”
“To tell you the truth, that girl drew on the #xfactor didnt sing #skyscraper that good.”
“I don’t like the X Factor Host #ohsnap.”
“Astro shouldn’t have been in the bottom 2 last week, shocked at how he acted tho, I would never do that! Talented boy! #TheXFactor”
“Drew Singing Skyscraper is so special .. She’s the best in #TheXfactor .. my opnion.. she rocks !”
“#Skyscraper was sung by DEMI LOVATO, which #Drew sang on #xfactor, which LA Reid said was a ‘song for 40 year olds’… WHAT THE HECK?!”
“I swear I wouldn’t watch #XFactor if @AstronomicalKid wasn’t on there ! #TeamAstro”
“I hope LA knows skyscraper is written by demi lovato who definitely isnt 40 lololol. #ohsnap”
“Astro is sorry cause he knows he messed up. Astro go home. Ughhh #xfactor”
“Astro performance tonight is his BEST!!! #XFactor.”
“For real life, I’d rather listen to @AstronomicalKid than a lot of grown rappers with mixtapes that you all are listening to. #XFactor.”
“I still love Astro.”
“I am rocking with #teamDrew!!! Her voice is amazing.”
“Yeah @LA_Reid dont talk smack on Leroy! he was awesome tonight, thank GOODNESS @simoncowell can see great talent when he hears it!”
