This article is in response to the esteemed Religious Skeptic Examiner who, every year at this time, creates or reruns (ad nauseum) his articles attacking the truth of the Christmas story as contained in the biblical Gospels. I have answered all of his attempts to disprove the biblical record before, so I will only present an outline here. There are many books, articles, websites, etc. for anyone seeking to know more. God did not hide his message. The Bible says that He, “…desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (I Timothy 2:4 ESV).
Once again, this year, skeptics everywhere trot out the same tired old objections to the truth of the Christmas story. Objections that have been completely and repeatedly shown to be unsubstantiated. Rather than give a full rebuttal to each of them, a link will be provided to an article specifically addressing the issues.
One of the issues skeptics appear to be concerned about is that the biblical stories of Jesus are merely adaptations of other myths circulating at the time. This has been thoroughly addressed in the article Atheists Attack Christianity with the Myth of Mithra.
The question of the Christmas holidays actually being pagan celebration days that Christians took over to make their own is treated in The War on Christmas Begins Again.
Skeptics love to attack the date of Jesus’ birth in order to cast doubt on the reality of His existence. Many writers have written rebuttals of this idea; this writer’s offering can be found in Christ’s Birth: The Question of Quirinius.
There is no question or objection the skeptic can raise against the truth of Christianity that has not been fully and satisfactorily answered. Therefore, it is not so much any intellectual issues with which the unbeliever wrestles. Rather, it is the refusal to give up his/her self will in order to worship, love, and obey God. It is a choice whether we put our trust in Him or not.
This writer would like to offer some more food for thought on the subject of Jesus Christ. There is no more important person who has ever lived. There is no more important of a subject than our relationship with Him. We all have a relationship with Him, either we are loving and honoring Him or we are rebelling against Him. There is no third position.
Jesus is the Greatest Gift of All
Jesus is the Reason for Everything
It is this writer’s prayer that everyone seriously considers eternity and where they will be spending it. Your destination depends completely on your relationship with Jesus Christ.
