2011 was a great year for Twilight Saga fans, and, as you might recall, we talked about this just a few weeks ago and counted down the eleven most memorable things about the year here.
Now, it’s time to turn our focus to 2012, which is shaping up to be an excellent year indeed for Twilight fans.
Here are the top things we have to look forward to in the coming year.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 on DVD
Admit it. You’ve got your Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse DVDs or Blu-rays all lined up proudly in a prominent spot on your shelf. Who doesn’t love having their own copies to turn to again and again? Early in 2012, most likely, the Breaking Dawn – Part 1 DVD will come out, filled with some behind-the-scenes information and glimpses at the making of the film, and just like each disc before it, will go straight into the movie player for the first of many playings. There’s something about seeing the Twilight Saga films on your own TV that definitely makes it worthwhile. Even better? This time, it’ll be the wedding, honeymoon, and incredible birth scene you’re watching.
Awards show season
It may just be a sneaking feeling, but I expect that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 will get a few honors this year, as it has in years past. Between the MTV Movie Awards, the Teen Choice Awards, and even the People’s Choice Awards, which some of the Saga‘s castmates are nominated for, there’ll definitely be an appearance or two by the cast, and who doesn’t love to see that?
Getting to know the newest castmates
Attached in the slideshow is a gallery of the many, many castmates in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, about half of whom are new to the Saga. Some made an appearance at the Breaking Dawn – Part 1 premiere, yes, but we will really get to know them in 2012, when they start to share their experiences working on Part 2. It’ll be great to get to know more about these newcomers, not to mention finally getting to see them in character.
First stills from Part 2
So far, Breaking Dawn – Part 2 has been kept a bit of a mystery, but this year, the veil will be lifted (so to speak) on this last installment to the Saga we all know and love. Sure, we got a glimpse of “Bella” (Kristen Stewart) as a newly-turned vampire at the tail end of Breaking Dawn – Part 1, but just wait until we get to see more. Pretty soon, a few teaser pictures from the movie will start to trickle down, and once they do, it’s going to be go time for excitement over Part 2, right?
First teaser and trailer for Part 2
Naturally, since Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is due in theaters in November, we can expect to see a teaser and a trailer for the film. In previous years, the teaser came out during the MTV Movie Awards or a similar event, so it’s likely the same will be true this coming year with the newest installment. Then, later in the year, a full theatrical trailer for the movie will be unveiled, which will probably be a bit longer and more inclusive. Both will probably be amazing, and we’ll be left dissecting them, frame by frame, to see what glimpses they hold of the film.
Watching the cast’s other projects unfold
This coming year, we’ll get to see several of our favorite Twilight Saga alums unveil new projects, including Kristen Stewart‘s Snow White and the Huntsman, Robert Pattinson‘s Cosmopolis and Bel Ami, and more. It’ll be fun to watch them venture into these new territories and, of course, to see the fandom rally around them.
Soundtrack news and release
Music has been such an important part of the Twilight Saga. It was what inspired Stephenie Meyer in writing the books. It was crucial to mood for many, many scenes in the films, and the soundtracks’ successes and positive critical reception became a story in and of itself. We’ve watched young artists develop entirely new audiences thanks to Twilight, and we’ve also seen major recording artists and bands come into the Saga. So in 2012, for the last time, Alexandra Patsavas and the team at Chop Shop records will team up with the director, Bill Condon, to put together the final Twilight Saga soundtrack album, this time for Breaking Dawn – Part 2. No doubt, it’ll be as exciting this go-round as it has been with the prior to films to find out who’ll be contributing to the album, what their thoughts on the Saga and its fandom are, and what went into the making of their songs.
Premieres and Promotions
In 2011, the cast went on so many television shows that a master list had to be created to even keep up with the schedule. It was fantastic to hear the cast recount their on-set stories and what not. There was also a great cast and musician tour across the U.S. and, of course, premieres across the globe. It’s always great to see our favorite Twilight Saga stars decked out to usher in the newest film, and this time with Breaking Dawn – Part 2 will be particularly special since it’ll be the last time they do so for The Twilight Saga. It should be a fun and somewhat bittersweet series of occasions.
Releasing Breaking Dawn – Part 2
On November 16th, 2012, the final installment to the massive Twilight Saga film franchise will finally hit theaters. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and all that it is will finally be upon us. For the last time, we’ll be racing out to midnight showings, drawing up lists of our favorite scenes, and sharing the excitement of this franchise with our fellow Twilight fans.
So, as you can see above, 2012 will be yet another exciting year for the Twilight fan community. What are you most excited about? Happy New Year!
