It’s hump day, and time to think about the weekend ahead. I’m glad there are so many fun things to do in our community. Here are a few to think about.
Great movies continue at our local theaters here in Los Feliz. At the Vintage Cinemas Los Feliz 3, you can catch “Hugo” or “Melancholia” at 2:15 p.m., 5:30 p.m. or 8:45 p.m., as well as “New Year’s Eve,” screening at 1:30 p.m., 4:15 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. Come Friday, “New Year’s Eve” will replace “Hugo,” screening at 2:15 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., while the new “Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows” will begin, screening at 1:30 p.m., 4:10 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. Over at the Vintage Cinemas Vista Theater, “The Descendants” continues with screenings at 5:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., with an additional 2:45 p.m. screening added on Saturday
Skylight Books is taking a break for the holidays, but it’s still a great place to shop for local and hard-to-find indie books. Check out some of their amazing deals at their website – www.skylightbooks.com.
There are lots of sports bars out there to enjoy NFL football, college bowl games and soon, the NBA. Who’s your favorite team? What’s the craziest thing you have ever done for your team? Leave a comment and let us all know.
The Hotel Cafe is one of the premier places to enjoy both up and coming indie artists as well as the elite. On Thursday it’s Carina Round with special guests from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday mark the 10th Anniversary of the HoHotel Holiday Fundraiser – tickets are going fast! Buy them at www.hotelcafe.com/tickets. Each night runs from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., and benefits the LAFD Spark of Love Toy Drive. Finally, on Sunday Covenant House California has a fundraiser at 7:30 p.m., followed by Alana Sweetwater at 9:30. Details can be found at www.hotelcafe.com.
Thursday night is also the 53rd Birthday Show for Shout it Out Promotions founder, Bob Leggett at Genghis Cohen. Music begins at 8 p.m. and features Kim Divine, BIFF 2011 Sonic Sound Off champion Outliar and Dark Matter. Come down and celebrate Bob’s birthday with some incredible indie music and some of the best Chinese food in LA. Cover is only $10.
Remember, there is also plenty of great music locally. Also check iTunes, ReverbNation and YouTube – be adventurous and be the first to discover new talent – then share it with us all.
