What follows is by no means a complete or exhaustive guide, but merely a compendium of the most notable happenings this weekend in the local concert scene.
3456 North Miami Avenue, Miami, Fl
When: 10 PM
Cost: $20 general admission
Long Island Dream Pop esembled Twin Sister play the carpet at Bardot this Thursday, touring behind their acclaimed debut LP, In Heaven; they’ve also got talented local act Little Beard opening up for them. Read my brief run-down of the show here.
12th Planet, featuring Caligula + Surprise Guests
Where: Grand Central
697 North Miami Avenue Miami, FL
Cost: $15 Limited presale tickets will be available here
Los Angeles-based, SMOG-signed, Dubstep producer and DJ 12th Planet has become one of the bigger names to emerge in the rather crowded scene over the past year or so, and he has done it through his relentless touring and collaborations with some of the biggest names in the genre: Skrillex, Rusko, Datsik and Skream, most notably. Having generated considerable buzz of his performance at Grand Central earlier this year, 12th Planet goes for an encore, alongside local Overthrow-affliated Dubsteppers, Caligula and special surprise guests (there are rampant rumors circulating that this may or may not be Skrillex).
Skrillex and Nadastrom
Where: Arkadia Poolside at the Fontainbleu Hotel
When: 2 PM to 10 PM
Cost: $60 presales available here
Skrillex has established himself as not only the most commercially viable and renowned figure in the North American Dubstep scene, but arguably so in the entire realm of EDM itself. While he has managed to accomplish this level of success in such a short period of time, he is certainly not without his detractors. Having sold out his first of two Miami appearances this weekend (the first being at the Fillmore), he is also making a second appearance at Arkadia Poolside along with up and comers Nadastrom. While the venue may seem like a questionable choice for an artist who has clearly made strides with a younger demographic, it should still be no less as raucous as his other appearance this weekend.
Seth Troxler and Danny Daze
Where: SET Nightclub
When: 10 PM
Cost: $20 presales available here
Seth Troxler is one of the foremost names in the contemporary Techno scene, having emerged relatively recently, meshing the convictions of old-school Detroit House with modern-day Tech House. His sound is both frenetic and unique, in what is quickly becoming a genre riddled with cliche. He recently was named the world’s #2 DJ in the annual reader poll conducted by residentadvisor.com, a largely Techno-oriented website, and is being backed by #55 in the same poll, local favorite Danny Daze.
