SOUTH BEND, December 30, 2011 — Data Realty plans to begin construction of a Tier 3, expandable data center in Ignition Park this January. The first phase is a 50,000 square foot data center with 20,000 feet of raised data center floor space, 24/7 security monitoring with biometric access and a modular design that will allow the building to be expanded an additional 50,000 square feet as customer needs increase.
Data Realty Northern Indiana, as the new data center is called, also hopes to receive LEED certification. The facility will offer its clients, who become part owners, redundant generators and backup support designed with 200 watts per square foot configuration and a location next to the nation’s second largest transcontinental fiber infrastructure.
Clients are expected to be small and midsize businesses. As part owners, clients receive the benefits of outsourcing as well as the operational benefits in the colocation facility. For instance, clients can share costs for local training sessions in cloud computing, rather than having to send workers to larger cities for training.
Data Realty, currently based at Innovation Park at Notre Dame, will construct its newest data center on a five-acre site near the new South Bend Transportation Corporation’s administration, maintenance and operations facility (Transpo).
In late December, the Board of Public Works awarded $2 million to Selge Construction Co. to complete storm and sanitary sewers, streets, curbs, sidewalks, lighting and other utilities to serve Ignition Park.
