The holiday season has arrived in Central Ohio—along with holiday party invitations, school holiday programs, and a host of other special events requesting holiday party dresses for girls throughout the Columbus metro area. Rather than seeing expensive department store price tags, take a breath, moms—and remember that there are a number of low cost holiday party dresses for girls available in Columbus even after Thanksgiving—if you know where to look!
Thrift and resale shops offer lots of holiday dresses for girls in Columbus. Many families buy a dress per season—and sell it to local thrift and resale shops in late summer and fall. Holiday dresses hold amazing resale potential—the velvet and satin composition along with red, black, green variations, and silver or gold colors and styles stay fashionable for years—unlike many other party dresses or fashion trends. Check out Once Upon a Child, Plato’s Closet, or even charity stores—such as ones operated by the American Cancer Society before heading out to the department stores.
Consider Kohl’s, J.C. Penney and other secondary department stores. There are some super cute holiday dresses for girls at Kohls and J.C. Penney this season. If the price tags at Nordstrom or specialty dress shops give you sticker shock—take the girls to a few not-so-pricey mid-range stores this season. The colors and fabrics at lower priced department stores are often quite comparable—if not virtually identical, to big named department store retailers in the Central Ohio area.
Tween shops rock over the holidays. Tween shops are the place to visit if your little girl is ready for strapless dresses or you want something a little different than department store 7-11 sized fare for the holidays. Locally, mall shops like Justice and The Gap offer acceptable holiday party dresses for girls (and shrugs or sweaters to accessorize if they are showing too much little girl for the holidays.) Most tween shops include holiday dresses in specials and coupon promotions making those shops well worth a visit.
Internet stores are not all bad for holiday dress shopping. If a unique dress is required, an internet shop may be the best bet. However, be sure to note the shipping timeframe—as many shops are mere middlemen for manufacturers or suppliers and delivery times may be 6-10 weeks or more.
Holiday clearance sales rule the SAHM mom world. Shopping the department store or specialty dress shops for next year’s holiday dresses requires memory, planning and forethought—but is extremely rewarding if done well.
