One of the questions I get asked regularly is what apps do I have on my phone. People assume since I am a tech guy my phone can do every thing, When I tell them what I have they usually are suprised. Here is a list of my favorite apps on my phone from the last year. Guess what? They are all free.
Wheres My Droid
It is a question I often ask myself. I think I may hold the world record for losing my phone. If only Guinness could verify it. With Wheres My Droid, which will force your phone to ring at maximum volume or vibrate when the phone receives a text message containing a specified phrase, such as “Where’s my Droid?” The app will also tell you where your phone is, as long as its GPS is enabled.
So you hear a song on the radio and don’t know what it is or who sings it. Shazam to the rescue! Load Shazam on your smartphone and hold it near the speakers. Within a few seconds, the app will tell you the title, artist, and sometimes even find the album art, too. Shazam is a great with most tunes you hear on the radio, both new and old, originals and the new one that is not as good.
Wikidroid for Wikipedia
We all get caught up in those conversations where no one quite knows the facts. The ones I get frustrated in is with the loud guy that everyone listens to because he is loud and not necessarily right. Well now you can look things up quickly with WikiDroid and have all the facts at your fingertips. WikiDroid pulls articles from Wikipedia so you have reliable information in the palm of your hands.
Astrid Task/Todo List
The traditional to do list gone android. The best part of it is that it will sync with Google calendar so you can update everything on your PC and it will appear on your phone. Now you can remember all of those things to pick up on your way home.
All of your financial information together in one spot. Here you can look at all of you finances and track the personal empire you are building for 2012. It gives a quick overview of your assets and allows a more in-depth charting analysis for you review as well.
Words with Friends Free
After Alec Baldwin got kicked off a plane for refusing to turn it off does it really need any more advertising. It seems to be a topic of discussion when meeting people for the first time. More than once I have been asked, “Maybe we’ll get a Words with Friends game going?” Well maybe social interaction is lacking but hey what ever gets people together.
Groupon has great deals. This app puts them in the palm of your hands. If your New Year’s resolution is to lose a few pounds you may find a coupon on Groupon for your local gym. It is a great way to find deals for what you want already and a few things that you just may want to try.
This may be the absolute best game ever and the absolute worst thing for everything else. You can’t live without Angry Birds. Then again it might not be a good idea to download it at all. I know people that have played it while waiting for a redlight to change. Seriously the game is so addictive you might miss going to work. Download at your own risk.
Google Maps is my favorite app from Google. It provides navigation and locates nearby services. You can use it as a replacement for an in car navi system. A nice feature is it shows you a picture of the front of the location when you arrive there so you can make sure you are at the right place.
Google voice is a great app for business. It allows you to add a second number to your phone along with voicemail and text capabilities. You can turn the number on and off when you want and set it to ring other phones such as your office number. It also allows for placing international calls at a much cheaper rate than your provider charges.
