#6 The Amish Midwife by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould: Nurse-midwife Lexie Jaeger has lived most of her life in Oregon after being adopted as an infant from Pennsylvania. When her adopted father confesses new information about her origins on his deathbed she sets out on a journey of discovery.
I felt as if I was reading a mystery as Lexie seeks the answers to her questions. I also felt like I was putting a jigsaw puzzle together as I saw the pieces coming together to make the picture of Lexie’s past.
#5 Learning by Karen Kingsbury: Bailey Flanigan is living her dream of performing on Broadway, while developing a relationship with movie star Brandon Paul. Her castmates believe she only got the role because she starred in the movie “Unlocked” with Brandon, and she is judging them because of her Christian faith.
After I finished the first book in this series I could not wait for this one. There were a lot of issues raised in Leaving and while none of them were resolved in this book, they were further developed.
#4 Promises to Keep by Ann Tatlock: Eleven year-old Rosalind (Roz) Anthony has just moved to Mills River Illinois with her mother and siblings to escape an abusive situation. A few days after their arrival they find the previous owner of their home on their front porch. Refusing to return to the nursing home where her family has put her she eventually moves into the house.
I felt compassion for Roz as she tried to begin her new life but still longed for her Daddy to come home, so everything would be alright again. At first I thought she was a little too naïve and trusting for a kid her age but the further I read the more I realized that her feelings were accurate for a child longing for her father.
Soli Deo Gloria!
