Trey Songz took the stage for one night only on Friday, Nov. 25, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Songz declared November as the official Angels with Heart month and this special show was all about benefiting his Angels with Heart Foundation. The mission of Trey’s charity “Angels With Heart Foundation” is to help underprivileged children and at-risk youth in a variety of ways. Teaming up with Hot 97 FM for the benefit concert, Trey was ready to deliver a concert both helpful and in true Trey fashion HOT!
The crooner performed his hit singles along with his mixtape songs to a packed house of fans plus fans streaming on the internet. Thanks to Stageit.com, an online concert venue, for just $5 Angels around the world got to also enjoy the one night only event live from their computer. Proceeds from the live stream as well was donated to the Angels With Heart Foundation.
Beginning the concert decked out in a black tux with red lining, he started performing songs from the “Anticipation II” mixtape like “Don’t Judge,” “Me4U-Infidelity 2” and “Inside.” He took off the tux jacket and he went into some of his hits from his studio albums, from “I Gotta Make It” to “Passion, Pain & Pleasure.” Some of the songs sung were “Gotta Go,” “Can’t Help But Wait,” “Invented Sex” and “Love Faces.”
Trey began to sang “The Way You Move” which features Neyo before admitting he couldn’t perform that song alone, “can’t do it without my homeboy” said Songz. To the surprise of the audience out walks Neyo to help deliver a soulful rendition of the song. Just when you thought Neyo was done, Trey allowed Neyo to take the stage to do his thing for a bit. Neyo performed his hit single “One In A Million” and his verse on Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything.” Before Neyo could get through “Give Me Everything”, Trey was back on stage in his street wear dancing along.
Now rocking his street wear Trey was ready to get the crowd amped with his upbeat tunes like “Bottoms Up,” “Say Aah” and “Unusual.” During his performance of “Say Aah”, he stopped the music to ask the audience if anyone was having a birthday then stated his birthday was coming. Since he wanted to share his birthday with the crowd, a crowd sing-along was born. In unison the crowd sung “Happy Birthday” to Trey. One fan even came prepared and brought him a birthday gift. The fan was invited on stage to present the gift, a Gucci money clip. In return Trey allowed the fan to wipe him down and placed the baseball hat he was wearing on her head before she exited the stage.
Trey kept the special show going with songs from his wide catalog of music before performing the last song of the night “Top of The World,” in which he brought out a full choir and his mother as well. “I get to see people all around the world who love my music, but don’t have shoes to wear,” Trey said. He got emotional and said “Give it up for the woman who made this possible” as his mother held up the foundation black t-shirt with angel wings.
Trey began the concert telling the audience, “This is something bigger than myself. I realized I have the power to impact lives, and it’s time to send that love back into the world. Every dollar from tonight’s show will go to my foundation.” Trey’s mission was accomplished, it was a great show, full of great times for a greater cause.
