One of tonight’s preliminary match ups at UFC 141 will see The Punisher squaring off against the Korean Stun Gun. Sounds a little like a bad red curtian era comic book. But these fighters, scheduled to go in the Facebook preliminary card starting at 7:15 ET tonight are definitely real life.
Tonight’s fight will be Sean “The Punisher” Pierson’s third UFC fight. It looks like he will finally be fighting an opponent that he has had plenty of time to prepare for. Pierson is 1-1 in his first two UFC fights. Both matches were fought against opponents with only short notice due to injury, including only 17 days of preparation for opponent Jake Ellenberger at UFC 129.
Pierson, a Canadian, has been splitting his training time between the famous TriStar MMA gym in Montreal and his other favorite training spot and team gym, Toronto’s TapStar Gym.
Known now as “The Punisher”, Pierson used to have the nickname “Pimp Daddy” due to his flamboyant ring entrances.
A year ago, Pierson was a proud trainee of the Toronto Police force. Pierson found out the hard way that all of his dreams would not be coming true as the Toronto cops didn’t like his old nick name, nor did police officials condone having a second job bringing in income or taking up his free time.
He was asked to chose fighting crime or fighting in the octagon, and Pierson, for better or for worse, chose to continue to lace up his gloves.
Pierson’s attitude, as it should be in mma fighting is to quickly forget what happened yesterday in the ring and look forward to the next opportunity to succeed.
Dwelling on the past will not bring about the change needed for this success. Only crazy people will continue to try the same wrong things over and over again expecting adifferent result.
Dong Hyun Kim(5-1-1 UFC) is coming off of a knockout loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 132. This was the first loss of his mma career and he will certainly be looking to bounce back with a victory against the Canadian, Pierson.
South Korean Kim has always been the “Stun Gun”, mostly for what he does in the ring, stunning his opponents with dangerous takedowns and vicious volleys from his underrated fists.
An all around mma fighter, Kim has a list of victories against formidable opponents in the UFC and only one loss. Tonight’s welterweight fight in Las Vegas is his to lose, but this one may come down to who is the most spirited fighter while keeping his cool in the ring.
In an interview with All MMA News, Pierson claims to have “some tricks that are certainly gonna cause some problems” for Kim, but Las Vegas oddsmakers have Pierson coming out on the losing end of the tilt.
Prediction: Pierson by decision
