As Christians we all know that we are supposed to live by faith. In Hebrews 10:38 the scripture reads Now the just shall live by faith but if any man draw back, my soul shall have not pleasure in him. So how exactly do I get faith? Is faith simply desiring a material thing or a physical healing and believing God for the manifestation of it? Do I have faith as long as I say I believe? Romans 10:17 answers your questions concerning faith. So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God, Let’s take a look at the first portion of the scripture which is, so then faith cometh. To have faith is to have trust in God. A person can only trust someone who they have a relationship with. A relationship is built on constant communication. In other words, we know each other, I know what kind of person you are and you know who I am. This kind of relationship with God can only be established through the word of God. I trust God because I know by his word in Deuteronomy 31:6 that he will never leave me or forsake me. Faith is always supported by the very character of God through his word.
Faith cometh, there is a process of getting and growing your faith through spending time in the word. Hear this revelation once again in a new light. There’s a process of getting and growing your trust in God through spending time with him and building a stronger relationship. The more word you mediate on the more your faith increases. The more you get to know God the more you will trust in him to deliver you (Mark 4:20).
So then faith cometh by hearing…Your trust in God is established and grows by a consistent hearing and mediation on his way of thinking and living; which is the word of God. The more word you hear the more truth you are able to walk in because you know that all of God’s promises are available to you and for you. In the final portion of the scripture, and hearing by the word of God refers to, when you’ve gotten in the word enough to hear by the spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. The word begins to speak back and your questions are being answered through the scripture. You’ll begin to hear and act on God’s instructions (Proverb 3:6). At this point you can now act on the word of God in confidence because you’ve built a relationship with him. You know by the word of God that healing (for example) is his will for your life. You’ve grown in your measure of faith according to the measure of thought and study you’ve given to the word on healing. Hebrews 10:38 So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Now that you know how to get faith there’s nothing that you can’t do. So I leave you with this exhortation from Mark 4:22 Have Faith in God.
Prayer of salvation
Make Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior Romans 10:9
Heavenly Father, I come to you with a heart of repentance. Please forgive me of all of my sins, transgressions and iniquities and make me new. God, you said in your Word that if I confess out of my mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in my heart that You raised him from the dead then I will be saved. God, I take you at your Word. I confess out of my mouth and believe in my heart that Jesus is Lord and that You raised him from the dead. Thank you for loving me, living in my heart and for giving me a new spirit.
In Jesus name, Amen
