The New Hampshire Union Leader endorsed Republican candidate for President former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. In a back-handed compliment, The Union Leader said that “Newt Gingrich is by no means the perfect candidate.”
There is also the “anybody but Mitt Romney” factor in play here. This issue is the elephant in the room with Republicans, who view Romney as someone who has no deep-seated beliefs, but a person who will say anything his audience wants to hear.
Truth be known, many in the liberal media are belittling the Republican candidates because they don’t want any of them to be taken as a serious challenger to their man, Obama.
Readers of the Union Leader and Sunday News know that we don’t back candidates based on popularity polls or big-shot backers. We look for conservatives of courage and conviction who are independent-minded, grounded in their core beliefs about this nation and its people, and best equipped for the job.
We don’t have to agree with them on every issue. We would rather back someone with whom we may sometimes disagree than one who tells us what he thinks we want to hear.
The Democrats feel that Romney is vulnerable with his flip-flopping ways. The DNC has released a new video attacking Romney’s flip-flopping ways on major issues. Health care reform. First Romney was for it and now he is against it. Stimulus. Abortion.
The Union Leader has not only endorsed a flawed candidate, in its endorsement also attacked the Republican front-runner, Mitt Romney. A serial flip-flopper, so says the New Hampshire Union Leader.
And for Newt Gingrich.
Newt Gingrich will have a lot to answer for too, such as the Freddie Mac fiasco, lobbying for health care as a lobbyist (Gingrich says he was not).
