Home and Living is always eager to hear about innovations in flooring. Today, we extend greetings to our guest Arnon Rosan, who has information about Modularity.
Q.: Arnon Rosan, welcome to Home and Living. What was the impetus for creating Modularity Tiles?
A.: A few years ago I was looking at vinyl flooring and was completely bored by what I saw. The colors were all drab and unattractive, and even the most basic black and white tiles had some kind of dirt-hiding texture or speckles. Vinyl is a modern material, so why does it have to look so dated? We started with the smooth, glossy texture. Next we chose our pallet of contemporary colors when it hit me–what if there were cut out shapes in the center of the tiles that could be mixed and matched with different colors?
Q.: The tiles are made of vinyl, can you speak to its properties and care?
A.: Modularity Tiles luxury vinyl tiles are comprised of four layers. From bottom to top, they are: leveling layer, balance layer, graphic layer, and wear layer. The wear layer is 0.2mm thick for residential tiles and 0.5mm thick for commercial tiles. The ingredients of the vinyl are: PVC (virgin and recycled), Calcium Carbonate, and DINP plasticizer.
Q.: How do the tiles remain slip resistant?
A.: Residential tiles (12” x 12”) have a .2mm wear layer and Commercial tiles (18” x 18”) have a .5mm wear layer to provide traction.
Q.: Who works on the design and how will you help homeowners with that?
A.: Our in-house designers are always happy to assist homeowners, contractors, and interior designers create their own custom floors, but we have so much fun designing ModTile patterns that we encourage people to use our online tool, the Modulizer where they can layout their space and see exactly how their design will translate as tiles. Of course, you can simply call 866-471-1022, and our designers will ask you about the size and use of your space, and once they get a sense of your aesthetic will provide you with a few designs, and we’ll take it from there.
“The design possibilities are nearly endless!”
Q.: What is the price point of these tiles in comparison to other flooring products?
A.: Modularity Tiles prices range from $2.00 to $3.50 per tile (retail).
Q.: What are some of the reasons that contractors should think about doing business with you?
A.: There is no other tile like Modularity Tiles. Our unique die-cut, interchangeable tiles in an array of bright solid colors is unlike any other line of tiles on the commercial market. The design possibilities are nearly endless!
Q.: Is the economy helping your business to expand—could this be a diy project?
A.: This is an ideal DIY project. Clever homeowners or apartment dwellers will enjoy the “play” factor – this is a fun, easy project that can be completed in 3-4 hours (depending on the size of the room) and in one day. The results are transformative!
Q.: What is on the horizon for Modularity Tiles, a bigger size?
A.: We currently offer a commercial tile–size is 18” x 18”–but it is only available in the solid Field Tile. On the horizon–die-cut designs for the 18” commercial tile.
Q.: Where are customers going to find the products and do you have a website for more information? Is there also a blog?
A.: Website is www.modularitytiles.com. Blog is in the works, should be live in February 2013.
