One great reason to join Uno Insider’s Club. I am a Uno Insider and proud of it. I was invited to their special holiday party at the Baltimore Harborplace location at 201 East Pratt Street in the 21202 zipcode. Uno threw two ‘thank you’ parties on 12/7/2011 and 12/8/2011 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. as a way of thanking their loyal customers. Along with the party invite was a coupon for buy one get one Holiday menu entree only good for the two days of the events. Their motto is “Business never gets old for us.”
Every story has a beginning and the story of Uno Pizza begins here according to the Pizzeria Uno Corporation. “In 1943, when Ike Sewell opened a restaurant at the corner of Ohio Street and Wabash Avenue in Chicago, Americans ate pizza primarily as a snack. Ike figured that if you combined some of Italy’s old, authentic recipes with impressive quantities of the finest meats, fresh cheeses, ripe vegetables and flavorful spices, pizza would become a hearty meal. It was the start of an American tradition the Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Ike’s Original Deep Dish Pizza has been imitated many times, but never quite duplicated.”
Their bio goes on to state that, “In the mid-1990s, Uno® broadened its concept to encompass favorite dishes that diners expected from a high quality, full-service restaurant. To expand the menu and meet increasing customer expectations, Uno completed a multi-million dollar kitchen upgrade in its restaurants, installing sauté stations, grills and fryers, and invested heavily in the training of its front and back of the house staff. The new Uno Chicago Grill locations are larger and feature a “Chicago warehouse” look that creates an inviting dining environment. These new prototype restaurants continue to generate above-average sales volumes.”
I attended Uno’s thank you party on Thursday December 8, 2011. I must admit is was worth the attendance. The party featured complimentary hors d’ oeuvres, holiday punch, wine tasting and a take-home goody bag. The hors d’oeuvres included samplings of their signature specialty pizzas and deep dish mac & cheese. The holiday punch was a blend of mixed fruit juices and lemonade. The wine tasting included a variety of wines however, I personally sampled the Mostcato and Chardonnay. The take-home goody bag included two fresh baked cookies, Goji snack mix cup and a $10 Uno Cash coupon.
Way to go Uno’s for being the best deep dish pizza in Baltimore! I was not sure whether the Harborplace location is being renovated nevertheless, ‘hint hint’ table covering would be great to fix the paint pecked table tops.
