Mark Vincent Hurd, former CEO and president of Hewlett-Packard (HP) resigned his positions at HP following discovery of inappropriate conduct in an investigation into a claim of sexual harassment made by former reality TV actress Jodie Fisher. That investigation concluded that the company’s sexual-harassment policy was not violated, but that its standards of business conduct were. After a Delaware court ruled that it may be made public, a letter containing details of the sexual harassment claim was published by the New York Times on December 29, 2011.
In the letter sent to Hurd from Jodie Fisher’s attorney Gloria Allred , we read:
“It is clear you had designs to make her your lover from the onset using your status and authority as CEO of HP and HP monies expecting her to be with you.”
Actress Jodie Fisher was a part-time contractor for Hewlett-Packard, and served as host for HP-sponsored events. According to CNN, the newly disclosed correspondence details how Hurd pushed Fisher to meet him for dinner, give him hugs, sleep in his room and have sex with him, despite her continuous rejections of his advances. In October 2007, Hurd and Fisher attended an event at the Atlanta Ritz Carlton.
“Following the event, the letter says Hurd and Fisher had dinner together, and Hurd asked Fisher to come to his room to see some documents about Madame Wu Yi, the Chinese Vice-Premier, whom Hurd was to meet the next day.
Hurd fondled Fisher and asked her to stay the night, a proposition which she rejected. A “clearly miffed” Hurd said he was never rejected, and he demanded at least a hug.” ~ CNN
