The causeway or Battleship Parkway that’s the lower road that runs from downtown Mobile across the bay is home to the Five Rivers Welcome Center. The center has a wildlife museum and is the gateway to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. Rent a canoe at the Five Rivers to experience a true wildlife experience including alligators.
Sometimes teen-ager will surprise you about what they like. If you have a teen-ager that likes history. Mobile has two exceptional museums that are sure to delight even the moodiest teenager.
The Explorium is a science museum that fascinates teens and adults alike. Besides the special exhibits and IMax theatre, there’s a ride on a virtual roller coaster you design yourself. The teen girl can design a new wardrobe on one of the computers. There’s a studio where you can try your hand at being a newscaster and see yourself on TV.
The Museum of Mobile will carry you through 300 years of local history. A canoe built by the Mauvilla Indians in the 17th century greets you as you enter the museum. A replica of a slave ship and memorabilia from World War I and II will capture the interest of most teen-age boys.
On Battleship Parkway just east of Mobile is the USS Alabama Memorial Park. Take a quick two hours tour of the battleship, submarine and vintage airplanes or spend the day exploring the park, either way you’re sure to have a fascinating journey.
Dad can spend the day with the boys at Bass Pro Shop, while mom takes the girls shopping at the Tanger Outlet Mall to finish a perfect vacation in southwest Alabama.
