On Dec. 2, PBS Arts from New York: Great Performances “Andrea Bocelli Live in Central Park” will broadcast at 9 p.m. on Vegas PBS. Acclaimed tenor Andrea Bocelli takes the stage for a spectacular evening on Central Park’s Great Lawn with special guests, including Celine Dion, Tony Bennett and the New York Philharmonic.
On Dec. 4, Human Nature Sings Motown with Special Guest Smokey Robinson will be broadcast at 4 p.m. Vegas PBS will host one of Australia’s most successful singing groups, Human Nature, live in-studio to highlight the airing of the PBS Special “Human Nature Sings Motown with Special Guest Smokey Robinson.” Recorded at Paris Las Vegas during the group’s 500th performance in Las Vegas, the program will feature Human Nature singing a catalogue of some of Motown’s most beloved songs.
On Dec. 16, PBS Arts from San Francisco: GREAT PERFORMANCES “The Little Mermaid from San Francisco Ballet” and Vegas PBS: Nevada Ballet Theater’s “Nutcracker” will be broadcast at 9 p.m. and 9:55 p.m. This is the chance to experience Hans Christian Andersen’s haunting tale of love in San Francisco Ballet’s production of this inventive ballet. Hamburg Ballet’s chief choreographer John Neumeier blends dance, dramatic storytelling and spectacle in a darkly emotional interpretation of the classic fable. Performed by the world-class San Francisco Ballet, the production features an original score by acclaimed young composer Lera Auerbach, with prima ballerina Yuan Yuan Tan in the title role. Kristi Yamaguchi hosts the program.
Paired with The Little Mermaid, Vegas PBS will air a special look at Nevada Ballet Theater’s holiday classic ballet program “The Nutcracker.” Vegas PBS captures rehearsal footage and interviews with co-founder Nancy Houssels, Artistic Associate Clarice Rathers and one of the company dancers, Alissa Dale.. The company was brought to life in 1972 by gathering a group of ballet dancers from the Las Vegas Strip entertainment scene. They’ll delve into the company’s history, its long-standing reputation and their new home in The Smith Center in 2012.
On Dec. 23, Vegas PBS Arts Showcase: Hosted by Donny Osmond will be broadcast at 9 p.m. Hosted by Las Vegas celebrity favorite Donny Osmond, star of “Donny & Marie” at the Flamingo Las Vegas, the Vegas PBS Arts Showcase is a 30-minute compilation special featuring the local artists highlighted during the PBS Arts Fall Festival including Coco Jenkins of Rhyme N’ Rhythm, Ronnie Vannucci and Big Talk, Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular, Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater, Out of the Desert Bluegrass Band, Cirque du Soleil’s “Viva Elvis!,” Christina Douglas of Sondheim Singers of Las Vegas and Nevada Ballet Theater’s “The Nutcracker.”
