Are you a stay at home mom who wants to be able to work at the same time? Some moms are doing just that, one of those moms is Shannon McKee, a work at home mom or WAHM. She has two boys, one four years and one seven months old, and has been working as a WAHM for over four years. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business from Kaplan University online schooling around the same time. She has been married for over four years and jokes that, “If you ask my husband he would say it feels like it has been much longer”.
When asked how she juggles being a wife and a mother she stated, “It is something that I still do not feel as though I have mastered it. It can be hard to know when to put each hat on that you are supposed to wear, especially when you add a career to the mix. It is always something that I try to keep in mind by making sure to spend cuddle time with both boys along with making sure we have a date night almost once a week to keep me sane”.
Shannon has tried a lot of working at home opportunities before discovering the writing opportunities that she is currently working. As to a career Shannon made this comment, “I consider this a career, one that you have to really throw yourself into even more than a traditional position”. For her work fits into her personal life whenever she can fit it in, you have to work around the family part of life, usually when there is quiet time. This being said, it really depends on the company that you happen to be working for, most companies have project tasks that and give only so much time to do this task. Shannon puts it best when she stated, “When you are at home you may be distracted by the pile of laundry that needs done, so staying on task can be hard.”
The second part of this article will talk about goals for the future, how to accomplish goals and resolutions, any helpful tips for other WAHM in the making and how passion is part of this new working tradition. You can visit Shannon’s blog at http://whyiwah.blogspot.com/.
