Practice wanting for others what you want for yourself by being Christlike rather than a Christian, Mohammed-like rather than a Muslim, and Buddha-like rather than a Buddhist.(Wayne Dyer)
The message above appears in Wayne Dyer ‘s book, The Power of Intention, Learning to Co-Create Your World Your Way. This could be the only resolution needed in the New Year. The violence, death, torture, ridicule and judgment faced by many in the name of religion does more to destroy the planet than the simple act of loving, without judging, one another.
The newfound furor of “Tebowing” sweeping the nation is an act of disrespect against anyone with a belief differing from the devoutly Christian, Tim Tebow. He has every right to believe in Christianity, however, the conscious decision to spread his belief across media channels is offense to those not sharing his belief. It seems hard to comprehend that God, Spirit, Immanuel, Master, whatever name is used to reference the Divine being, is truly invested in the results of football games. If in fact Jesus is to receive credit for Tebow and the team‘s performance (or lack of), would Jesus actually choose to ignore prays and request to support the opposing teams? Promoting and commending performances, gratitude for minimal game injuries, nature’s blanket above and upon the field, camaraderie between teams and spectators could do more to unite all than recognizing a single religion. Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Hindus, Christians, Buddhist, even Atheists could be a football fan.
Persons killing countrymen, raping women, denying rights to fellow humans, bombings, all in the name of religion, fuels the fire of hatred rampant throughout the world. The rationale for such actions makes no sense.
Christ, Mohammed, and Buddha walked across the lands spreading messages of peace, equality and love. To believe that any of the three could support the destructive, divisive acts committed against others in the name of a religious perspective differing from the offenders is hard to believe.
With the beginning of a New Year fast approaching, resolving to accept others, striving to live a life filled with gratitude and contributing to a peaceful world could be a gift to be shared lifelong by all.
There are hosts of writers, speakers, teachers and spiritual leaders walking the talk of Mr. Dyer. Opening the mind and heart to all mankind could be the resolution the world is searching for.
