As 2011 comes down to it’s final days, let’s look ahead to 2012 and see what’s up?
At the end of Main Street, the former Plaza Pavilion will reopen as the new Mary Poppins-themed Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. The new location will offer the line-up of baked goods and coffee drinks currently available at the Blue Ribbon Bakery along with new signature entrees including hot sandwiches and fresh salads.
The Blue Ribbon Bakery will close January 5th and The Carnation Cafe will reclaim the space currently occupied by the Bakery and once again offer indoor dining in addition to its open-air patio.
Next door, the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor will also close to receive a remodel that will address the crowd-flow issues that this popular location deals with.
The Candy Palace will also be closing in January to expand it’s space. A larger viewable kitchen will replace the little one that’s been there since the park opened.
The Matterhorn Bobsleds will be closed for refurbishment from January 9 through June 14, 2012. New bobsleds will be installed, eliminating the “straddle or be straddled” old style seating. Also, the Imagineers will be cramming as much new technology on to the ride that their budget will allow. NOTE: a new movie named “The Hill” comes out in 2012 loosely based on this ride. So expect a lot of references to the movie to be a part of the renovation.
And of course, obvious to everyone over the past year at Disney California Adventure has been the ongoing construction of Carsland and Buena Vista Street. A tentative date for the Carsland opening is set for May 31st. Assume that Buena Vista Street will open around that time as well.
And look for a new place to satisfy your sweet tooth. In late spring 2012, a new Ghirardelli location will open at the Pacific Wharf area. The soda fountain and chocolate shop will be similar to the location at Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World and will feature Ghirardelli’s world-famous hot fudge sundaes and chocolate products. Even more important…complimentary samples of their signature Ghirardelli Squares chocolate!
And for the first time ever, both Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom Park will be celebrating Leap Day by staying open for 24 hours starting February 29 at 6:00am and ending March 1 at 6:00am.
You can also spend an extra night for free at either The Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World when you book a Room and Ticket Package for 3 nights or more, between February 26 and March 10, 2012. Purchase before January 31, 2012.
Plus starting January 1 enter every day through February 29 for a chance to win one of 60 vacation packages for 4 to either Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort. For all the details go here:
