“Mayor: Freedom of speech is over,” a story filed this morning by Bob Unruh on WorldNetDaily reports.
A citizen attempting to address the El Paso City Council was given only 70 seconds to speak by Mayor John Cook when he abruptly cut her off, declaring:
“Thank you, your time is over. If you can’t remove yourself from the podium, I’ll have you removed. Yeah. You can take your freedom of speech outside.”
This is spite of the fact that the First Amendment specifically articulates a right “to petition the government for a redress of grievances,” and all public officials, per Article. VI. of the Constitution specifically requires “all executive and judicial Officers…of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution…”
No matter, apparently, for Cook, a career Democrat originally from Brooklyn.
But as inexcusable and outrageous as his arrogant and imperious contempt for the rights of his citizen employers is (especially when you consider how few in El Paso actually care enough to vote), one thing recorded in the council meeting video was nothing less than chilling.
About half a minute after resident Elizabeth Branham took the podium to make her views known, an unidentified “law enforcement officer” walked into the chambers and stood directly behind her with his hand on his gun and remained there for the duration, prepared to enforce Cook’s threat to “have [her] removed.” (See sidebar video.)
Yeah, that little woman sure looks like a threat. What’s the matter, Tex, don’t y’all have duty retention holsters down there, or do you just like to swagger like a tough hombre when you know you’re the “Only One” with a gun?
This is that “monopoly of violence” endorsed by citizen disarmament advocates in action, because in Texas, police are the…yep, gotta say it again… “Only Ones” who can open carry, and “[i]t is unlawful for a handgun license holder to carry a handgun on the premises of… a meeting of a governing body…”
No First Amendment, no Second Amendment…
This is what we can expect whenever and wherever regressive statist dictators with thug enforcers to back their edicts are in charge.
And ultimately, it all traces back to a phenomenon I call “profiles in apathy.”
Looks like the laryngitis that silenced my appearance last week is on the mend, so I’ll be rejoining Armed American Radio with Mark Walters again tonight in the 10:00 pm Eastern segment to discuss Dianne Feinstein getting her gungrabbing claws on illegally-provided gun trace data as well as significant revelations from a newly-surfaced ATF memo.
The show starts at 8:00 pm Eastern/5:00 pm Pacific. Click here, then either find a station near you or listen live via the internet.
