The Elizabethan Gardens on Roanoke Island is a popular year-round attraction for visitors to the Outer Banks. The annual winter event, WinterLights, opens with a Grand Illumination on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Beginning on Tuesday, Dec. 6, the Gardens will be open on Tuesday through Saturday.
The Garden courtyard will be illuminated by thousands of lights and displays that were created using more than 1,500 dried roses and peonies and several types of seeds and flowers.
Open throughout the seasons, history, nature and culture enthusiasts can all find something at the Outer Banks’ Elizabethan Gardens. This site of the New World’s first English colony features furniture, portraits and statues placed throughout the grounds, along with plants, flowers, shrubs and trees.
The Gardens are located across from The Lost Colony’s Waterside Theatre and Fort Raleigh National Historic Park on Roanoke Island in Manteo, NC.
